A LEGACY OF COMPASSION
Marlice van Vuuren’s love for the Namibian bush, its wildlife, and its people was nurtured at Harnas Wildlife Sanctuary, Namibia’s first wildlife sanctuary. Her deep connection with the San people and her skills in caring for orphaned and injured wildlife shaped her life’s mission.

This mission was further solidified when she met her husband, Dr. Rudie van Vuuren, a medical doctor with a passion for conservation. In 2003, the tragic death of a San baby led to the establishment of the Lifeline Clinic for the San community of Epukiro by Marlice and Dr. Rudie. The clinic provides free medical care and meals to around 4,500 San patients annually. Their dedication to preserving Namibia’s wildlife and landscapes culminated in the creation of the N/a’an ku sê Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary in 2007.

Supported by conservation partners Jan and Tineke Verburg and Dr. Jannes Brandt, their efforts now protect over 100,000 hectares of Namibian landscapes. Dr. Rudie and Marlice van Vuuren envision a world where humans and wildlife coexist harmoniously, a vision embodied by the N/a’an ku sê Foundation, benefiting thousands of lives daily.
